2015 Hamilton Music Awards Nominees - 99 Selected in 19 Categories

99 Nominees have been selected from the over 400 submissions to the 2015 Hamilton Music Awards.

Most of the 19 categories have five or six nominees. The New Country Recording of the Year category has two nominees, and the Rap/Hip Hop Recording of the Year category has four.

This year's Hamilton Music Awards has a later date. The event was shifted from November 2014 to the May 2015 time slot. As a result, additional nomination packages were received resulting in the biggest pool of artist submissions ever.

The deadline for submission of nomination packages was Friday, February 13, 2015. From the nomination package: "Submissions are screened by a screening committee of music industry experts who determine a final list of a maximum of five nominees per category. The screening committee reserves the right to include more than 5 nominations per category at their sole discretion. The screening committee also reserves the right to re-categorize any submission and to submit nominations. The final nominees are then judged by a panel of judges. Ballots are then collected and tabulated and winners are announced... Individuals or groups are encouraged to make nomination submissions on behalf of themselves."

A fee of $20 is collected for each nomination submission.

This year will be the 11th Hamilton Music Awards. It is the outgrowth of an annual event called Hamilton Music Scene which began back in 1995 when the JUNOs first came to Hamilton. Its purpose was to give local musicians the opportunity to gain some recognition and create some buzz around their work.

Today the Hamilton Music Awards continues to be a great opportunity for local artists to perfect their public relations "game" and to garner some new fans and new performance opportunities.

The HMA gala awards show is on Sunday, May 24 at the Dofasco Centre for the Arts' Irving Zucker Theatre (home of Theatre Aquarius).
