Official Launch Of Hamilton Musician Magazine, December 12, 5pm, Baltimore House

Greater Hamilton Musician Release Party: “Tis the season”

Much to celebrate in Hamilton’s music scene and music community

December 9, 2013 – HAMILTON

One more celebration to add to your Christmas and holiday season calendar is the release party for the 2013 edition of Greater Hamilton Musician. The event takes place Thursday, December 12 from 5:00 to 8:00 pm at the Baltimore House and will feature special musical guest, singer-songwriter Lori Yates.

An extension of local music site, www.hamiltonmusician.com, the second annual “print” edition of Greater Hamilton Musician was the brainchild of local teacher and part-time musician Glen Brown. “Connecting people through a website is one thing, but it's not like a magazine,” said Brown. “A magazine is less transient than a website. And it's a good way to show that a news item has lasting significance.”Greater Hamilton Musician is dedicated to connecting musicians, music industry people and music lovers in the Hamilton and surrounding area. The 2013 edition covers a range of articles that demonstrate the depth and diversity of the city’s burgeoning music scene. Feature stories include singer-songwriter Lori Yates, Mohawk College’s renowned music program, Oshweken’s Jukasa Studios, An Instrument For Every Child (AIFEC), Hamilton Music Awards highlights, and more.

Dublin-born graphic designer and photographer, Cormac Figgis, designed the magazine and provided the overall art direction and photography, and local writer, marketing/PR pro Jeff Martin supported Brown as contributing writer and managing editor. “Hamilton’s music scene is bursting at the seams,” said Martin. “Folk, blues, jazz, punk, hard rock, roots, classical, hip hop, you name it, something hot and very exciting is happening here. It’s been happening here for years, decades, but now it’s exploding like never before.”

The Hamilton area’s arts communities are known for being connected and co-operative. “There’s a great spirit of acceptance and collaboration, even generosity,” said Brown. “That's why Hamilton has been called Ontario's ‘biggest small town.’ It’s the inspiration for Greater Hamilton Musician. We're trying to give all the participants in our local music scene a place they can call their own, and where they can be known as part of the community.”

Celebrating “all things’ music” in Hamilton is not only about the great music and musicians, but also the great recording studios and industry professionals, our local music writers and bloggers, two campus radio stations, our festivals and clubs, the music education programs and instructors, and community organizations like the Hamilton Children’s Choir and the Hamilton Music Co-operative that together help define Hamilton as an authentic “city of music.” "We’re really excited about the launch of the new Greater Hamilton Musician,” said Jackie Norton, Tourism & Culture Division, City of Hamilton. “This magazine is going to be a major point of
convergence for all the buzz that comprises the music scene in Hamilton. And it will work hand in glove with the objectives of Hamilton’s proposed music strategy.”
